Performance Recording, Evaluation and Publication Database (PREPdb)

Interbull Service Users and many researchers are acquainted with Forms “GE”, “GENO” and “BEEF” which describe national systems for performance recording and genetic and genomic evaluations. The PREPdb was launched in 2022 and includes the same information as within the current GE, GENO, and BEEF forms, but is more efficient in dealing with and sharing of information for an increased number of organisations, breeds and traits. Through the PREPdb, breed societies and third parties designated by breed societies (National Genetic Evaluation Centres) can give information in a standardised way (rather than ‘free text’).

The PREPdb consists of several electronic forms, serving different purposes. It provides information for breeds and traits included in the international evaluations offered by Interbull Centre or information on other breeds or traits that could be included in future international evaluations. Each form is constructed in the most efficient way to provide repeatable information across breeds and traits with the ability to copy data between breed-trait combinations if the information is the same or similar.

The PREPdb was developed and hosted at the Interbull Centre within the context of the Centre’s function as the European Union Reference Centre (EURC) for Zootechnics and enables users to upload descriptive information regarding performance recording, national genetic evaluation systems and publication policies in stardardized and comparable format.

The platform is accessible to all breeding organisations – also those that do not participate in International Bull evaluations for dairy (Interbull) or beef (Interbeef). The PREPdb is being further developed to provide inspiration and a knowledge sharing platform for business organisations, including NGECs, authorities and academics.
